Our facilities

The NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) provides a range of world-leading specialist research facilities. Funding from Guy's and St Thomas\' Charity, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has enabled the BRC to increase its translational research by investing in our core facilities.

Research services and infrastructure

Centre for Innovative Therapeutics (C-FIT)

The Centre for Innovative Therapeutics (C-FIT) exists to support commercial companies and world-leading academics to collaborate more effectively.

Centre for Translational Informatics

The Centre for Translational Informatics provides a functional interface between analytics, software development and implementation to promote digital innovation in mental health.

King's Clinical Trials Unit

The King’s Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) helps research teams throughout the country carry out clinical trials safely and to a high scientific standard. It offers a range of services to help ensure the results are accurate and credible.

BioResource

The BioResource project, in collaboration with other BRCs, collects biological samples such as blood and saliva for molecular analysis, which are linked to electronic medical records of service users who have given permission to be contacted for participation in research.

Prediction Modelling Group

Our Prediction Modelling Group provides a forum for researchers and clinicians who are interested in prediction modelling applications for precision medicine.

Facilities

BRC Nucleus

The NIHR Maudsley BRC Nucleus is a state of the art facility established in 2009 as a result of a major infrastructure grant from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Guy's and St Thomas' Charities.

Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences

The Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences provides, under one roof, an interdisciplinary research environment that combines the development of contemporary, high resolution structural, functional and metabolic mapping techniques, with expertise in the definition, diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

King’s Clinical Research Facility

The NIHR-Wellcome Trust King's Clinical Research Facility opened in November 2012. The building comprises of two main research areas within King's College Hospital Cheyne Wing. The Clinical Research Facility spans three floors with a further standalone unit, the Clinical Trials Facility.

Proteomics facility (Omics platforms)

Proteomics is the large-scale study of sets of proteins. It provides an important platform to support research into the underlying causes of diseases. Proteomics can also identify important biomarkers that could inform early diagnosis of disorders and predict their life course and response to treatments.

Data and informatics platforms / resources

Clinical Informatics Service (CIS)

The Clinical Informatics Service (CIS) is a new service set up by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, with support from the Maudsley Charity.

Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS)

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system has been developed for use by the NIHR Maudsley BRC, and is now being rolled out to other NHS Trusts. It provides authorised researchers with regulated access to anonymised information extracted from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust electronic clinical records system.

Rosalind

A High performance computing (HPC) and cloud facility which allows large-scale analysis of research data from sources as diverse as DNA samples to fitbits and health apps.
